Yesteryear Collection

In 1961, Lee Iacocca envisioned a car big enough to carry four people, yet it could be no more than 180 inches long. Equipped with bucket seats and a floor-mounted shifter, it would weigh less than 2,500 pounds, and it would sell for less than $2,500. The result was one of the greatest automotive classics of all time: the Mustang. After many months of internal discussions and consumer research, the Mustang got funding in September of 1962. Less than two years later, on March 9, 1964, the first Mustang rolled off the Ford assembly line. The Mustang was designed for every driver and was touted "the car to be designed by you." The public responded. Ford sold over 20,000 Mustangs the first day. By the end of the year, sales rocketed to 263,434. By the end of the Mustang's first anniversary, April 17, 1965, Ford had sold 418,812 Mustangs. The Mustang had made a name for itself, and it was here to stay.

Because the first Mustang was released well into the production year, it was dubbed the "1964-1/2." And now, that very first Mustang is captured in an authentic die-cast model. Crafted with the same sculpted Mustang on the grille, the distinctive wheels, the emblems on the sides, the handsome Mustang styling and the fully detailed interior and under chassis, this precision-engineered replica is crafted to the highest standards. Officially authorized by Ford Motor Company, your die-cast replica is produced by - and available only from - Matchbox Collectibles.
